Job Description: The Coding Manager plays a pivotal role in the health information management sector of healthcare institutions. This professional oversees the medical coding staff and ensures that all patient medical information is coded accurately and efficiently for billing, reporting, and compliance purposes. The Coding Manager ensures that coding practices are in alignment with current coding standards, government regulations, and payer requirements. This role involves supervising coding staff, conducting audits, providing training, and serving as a key liaison between clinical departments and billing.

Key Responsibilities: Oversee the daily operations of the medical coding department, ensuring accurate and timely coding of diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to ICD-10, CPT, and other relevant standards.
Manage coding staff, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and addressing any issues or discrepancies in coding practices.
Stay abreast of changes in coding standards, healthcare regulations, and insurance guidelines, implementing necessary updates in coding practices.
Conduct regular audits of coded information to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and to maximize reimbursement.
Collaborate with billing and medical records departments to streamline the coding and billing process, ensuring efficient revenue cycle management.
Develop and implement coding policies and procedures to enhance accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in the coding process.
Provide ongoing education and training to coding staff on new coding guidelines, technology, and compliance requirements.
Serve as a subject matter expert on coding questions and disputes, providing guidance to clinicians and administrative staff.
Generate and analyze reports on coding productivity, compliance, and revenue impact, making recommendations for improvements.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration, or a related field preferred.
Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or other relevant coding certification is required.
Several years of experience in medical coding and billing, with a solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within the coding department.
Strong knowledge of coding standards, healthcare regulations, and payer requirements.
Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical coding software.
