Job Description: The Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) is responsible for managing and maintaining all aspects of radiation safety within a healthcare facility. Their primary goal is to ensure that the use of radiation and radioactive materials is performed safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements. The RSO develops, implements, and oversees a comprehensive radiation safety program, including monitoring, training, and compliance activities.

Key Responsibilities: Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the use of radiation and radioactive materials. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws and guidelines.
Radiation Safety Programs: Develop, implement, and monitor effective radiation safety programs to protect patients, staff, and the general public.
Training and Education: Conduct training sessions for all personnel who work with or around radiation, educating them on proper safety procedures and the use of protective equipment.
Radiation Monitoring: Oversee the monitoring of radiation levels within the facility using dosimeters and other measurement devices to ensure safe working environments.
Incident Response: Lead the response to any radiation incidents or emergencies, including containment, documentation, and analysis to prevent future occurrences.
Waste Management: Manage the disposal of radioactive waste in accordance with legal and safety standards.
Equipment Calibration and Maintenance: Ensure that all radiation equipment is regularly calibrated and maintained to operate safely and effectively.

Education Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in health physics, medical physics, or a related field.
Certification: Certification from the American Board of Health Physics, the American Board of Radiology, or similar is highly preferred.
Experience: Extensive experience in a radiation safety role, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of radiation safety regulations and standards.

Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data from monitoring devices to make informed decisions regarding radiation safety.

Leadership: Capable of leading a team, managing safety programs, and training staff in safety protocols.
