Job Description: Research Nurses, also known as Clinical Research Nurses, hold a pivotal role in the conduct of clinical research, intertwining their nursing skills with research methodologies to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of study participants while contributing to the advancement of medical science. They work closely with participants throughout the study, providing clinical care, monitoring health outcomes, and ensuring that the research protocols are followed precisely.
Key Responsibilities: Participant Care: Provide direct nursing care to study participants, including administering treatments or interventions as per the study protocol and monitoring for adverse reactions.
Informed Consent Process: Assist in obtaining informed consent from participants, ensuring they understand the study, its risks, benefits, and their rights.
Data Collection and Management: Collect clinical data and samples as required by the study protocol. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care and study data.
Patient Monitoring: Monitor participants for changes in health status, adverse reactions to treatments, and compliance with the study protocol.
Ethical Oversight: Ensure that the study is conducted in an ethical manner, with respect for participants’ rights and well-being.
Communication: Serve as a liaison between the study participants and the research team, providing education on the study, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the study complies with regulatory requirements, institutional policies, and ethical guidelines.
Collaboration: Work closely with the research team, including investigators, coordinators, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the smooth conduct of the study.
Education Qualifications: Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is typically required; additional certification in research nursing (e.g., Certified Clinical Research Professional) is beneficial.
Experience: Clinical nursing experience is essential; experience in a research setting or specific therapeutic area related to the research is highly valued.
Licensing: Must hold a current and valid nursing license.
