Job Description: Security Officers in a healthcare environment are crucial to maintaining the safety and security of the facility, its patients, staff, and visitors. They patrol and monitor hospital premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules. These professionals are trained to respond to emergency situations, offer assistance, and ensure that the healthcare facility’s security protocols are followed at all times.
Key Responsibilities: Patrol Duties: Regularly patrol the healthcare facility grounds, both internally and externally, to deter and detect signs of intrusion, ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
Emergency Response: Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, including medical emergencies, security threats, or safety hazards, providing necessary assistance and notifying additional support if required.
Access Control: Monitor and control access at facility entrances, ensuring that only authorized individuals enter the premises, and assist in managing visitor logs and badges.
Surveillance Monitoring: Operate and monitor security cameras and alarm systems to identify irregularities or potential security breaches within the facility.
Incident Reporting: Document all security-related incidents in detailed reports, noting observations, activities, and surveillance information.
Law Enforcement Liaison: Work closely with local law enforcement and emergency responders in cases of criminal activities, accidents, or other incidents requiring outside assistance.
Safety Inspections: Conduct regular checks of the facility to ensure safety and security measures are upheld, including checking for fire hazards, equipment malfunctions, or security system faults.
Public Assistance: Provide directions and assistance to patients, visitors, and staff, maintaining a professional and helpful demeanor at all times.
Conflict Resolution: Address disturbances or conflicts within the facility, applying de-escalation techniques to prevent escalation of violence or disruptive behavior.
Security Education: Participate in security training and drills, staying informed on the latest security procedures and technologies.
Education Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent; further education in security services or law enforcement is advantageous.
Experience: Prior experience in security or law enforcement is preferred, especially in a healthcare setting.
Certifications: Security Officer certification as required by state or local regulations. First aid and CPR certifications are beneficial.
Skills: Excellent observation skills, ability to remain calm in emergencies, good physical condition, effective communication skills, and proficiency in basic security equipment and technology.
