Job Description
- The Surgical Ward Nurse provides direct nursing care to patients before and after surgical procedures, ensuring their safety, comfort, and recovery.
- This role involves clinical assessment, medication administration, wound care, and emotional support, working closely with the surgical team to deliver high-quality inpatient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess pre- and post-operative patients
- Administer medications and IV therapy as prescribed
- Perform wound care and dressing changes
- Assist in patient mobilization and rehabilitation
- Document patient progress and maintain accurate records
- Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-op checklists and education
- Monitor vital signs and respond to clinical changes
- Provide emotional support and patient education
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthetists, and allied health professionals
- Ensure infection control and hygiene practices are followed
- Handle admission, discharge, and transfer procedures
- Manage pain control and post-surgical complications
- Participate in shift handovers and multidisciplinary rounds
- Maintain a safe and clean ward environment
- Report incidents and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
Education Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (GNM/BSc Nursing or equivalent)
- Valid registration with nursing council or licensing authority
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification (preferred)
