The Electrodiagnostic Technician is a healthcare professional who specializes in performing diagnostic tests that evaluate the electrical activity of muscles and nerves.
Working under the supervision of a physician—typically a neurologist or physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) specialist—the technician supports the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders through procedures such as nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG).
This role is critical to providing accurate data for clinical decision-making in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Prepare patients for electrodiagnostic procedures, explaining the process and addressing concerns.
Perform nerve conduction studies (NCS) in accordance with established protocols.
Assist physicians during electromyography (EMG) examinations, ensuring proper electrode placement and data acquisition.
Calibrate, operate, and maintain electrodiagnostic equipment, ensuring accuracy and safety.
Accurately record and document test results, patient responses, and observations during procedures.
Monitor patients during procedures to ensure comfort and safety, and respond to adverse reactions if needed.
Ensure infection control and hygiene standards are maintained.
Maintain detailed records and contribute to electronic medical documentation as required.
Participate in ongoing education to remain current with evolving technologies and clinical practices.

Completion of a formal training program in electroneurodiagnostic technology, neurophysiology, or a related allied health field.
Certification as a Registered Nerve Conduction Study Technologist (R.NCS.T) or equivalent credential (preferred).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
On-the-job training or prior clinical experience in neurodiagnostic or rehabilitation settings is highly advantageous.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality diagnostic data.
Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Ability to work calmly and professionally in a patient-facing, clinical environment.
Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, physicians, and healthcare teams.
Organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently across multiple appointments.
Technical proficiency with medical devices, computers, and diagnostic software.
Empathetic, patient-centered approach to care.
