Job Description: The Biochemistry Technician is responsible for conducting routine biochemical tests and assisting in the preparation and analysis of patient samples in a pathology laboratory. This role involves working under the supervision of senior biochemists or pathologists, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards, and contributing to the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic results.
Key Responsibilities: Sample Preparation: Collect, label, and prepare patient samples for biochemical analysis.
Biochemical Testing: Conduct routine biochemical tests such as glucose levels, liver function tests, and lipid profiles.
Equipment Operation: Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometers, analyzers, and centrifuges.
Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on equipment and reagents to ensure test accuracy and reliability.
Data Recording: Accurately record and document test results in laboratory management systems.
Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to NABL, CAP, and ISO standards and ensure proper documentation of all lab activities.
Stock Management: Assist in monitoring and replenishing laboratory supplies and reagents.
Safety Compliance: Follow laboratory safety protocols, including handling of hazardous materials and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with senior biochemists and other lab staff to ensure timely completion of diagnostic tasks.
Education Qualifications: Minimum Requirements: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT) or Biochemistry.
Certifications: Certification in laboratory procedures or specific biochemistry techniques is an advantage.
Experience: Previous experience in a biochemistry laboratory or pathology lab is preferred.
