Job Description: Cardiac surgeons are specialized surgeons who focus on the operative, perioperative, and postoperative management of cardiovascular diseases. Their expertise lies in performing surgical procedures on the heart, blood vessels near the heart, and the thoracic cavity. These procedures include coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair and replacement, surgeries for congenital heart defects, and heart transplantation. Cardiac surgeons collaborate closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients with complex cardiovascular conditions.

Key Responsibilities: Surgical Procedures Perform complex surgeries on the heart and its surrounding structures, including coronary artery bypass, valve repairs and replacements, and surgeries for congenital heart defects.
Diagnosis and Treatment Planning Assess patients’ conditions through consultations, diagnostic tests, and discussions with cardiologists to plan appropriate surgical interventions.
Patient Care Provide preoperative and postoperative care to patients, managing complications and ensuring effective recovery.
Collaborative Teamwork Work in multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiologists, cardiologists, cardiac nurses, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Education and Counseling Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, potential risks, post-surgery care, and lifestyle modifications post-recovery.
Continuous Learning and Research Stay updated with the latest advancements in cardiac surgery techniques and technologies; engage in research and clinical trials to improve surgical outcomes and patient care.

Education Qualifications: Education: Completion of a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree, followed by a general surgery residency and a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship.
Licensing/Certification: Must be licensed to practice medicine in the jurisdiction of employment. Board certification in thoracic surgery is required, which includes specific certification for cardiac surgery.
Experience: Extensive experience in cardiothoracic surgery, demonstrating proficiency in a wide range of cardiac surgical techniques and patient care.
