Job Description: A Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) Technician is a vital member of the surgical team, providing technical support and assistance during cardiac and vascular surgeries. They play a critical role in preparing the operating room, surgical equipment, and instrumentation, ensuring a smooth and efficient surgical experience.
Key Responsibilities: Operating Room Preparation:
Set up and prepare the operating room for CTVS procedures, including assembling surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Ensure all necessary equipment and instruments are sterilized and in working order.
Assist in positioning the patient and preparing the surgical site.
Surgical Assistance:
Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures.
Maintain a sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols.
Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and assist as directed.
Equipment Management:
Operate and maintain surgical equipment, such as suction devices, electrocautery units, and surgical lights.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
Ensure proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
Patient Care Support:
Assist in transferring patients to and from the operating room.
Monitor patient vital signs and assist with anesthesia induction and emergence.
Provide post-operative care and transport patients to recovery areas.
Documentation and Communication:
Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and patient information.
Communicate effectively with the surgical team, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a surgical technology program or relevant training preferred.
Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) may be required.
Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and sterile techniques.
