Job Description: The Emergency Medicine Consultant is a senior clinical leader responsible for delivering expert care to patients in the Emergency Department (ED). This role involves making high-level clinical decisions, managing complex cases, and supervising junior medical staff. The Consultant ensures the highest standards of emergency care are maintained while contributing to the development and implementation of clinical protocols, quality initiatives, and staff training.
Key Responsibilities: Provide direct, advanced-level clinical care to patients presenting with acute medical, surgical, trauma, and psychiatric emergencies.
Lead the ED team during critical situations, including resuscitations, trauma activations, and mass casualty events.
Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical guidance to junior doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Ensure effective triage processes and timely patient flow through the department.
Collaborate with other specialties to coordinate patient care and arrange admissions or discharges.
Participate in the development and review of clinical guidelines, protocols, and pathways.
Contribute to departmental audits, quality improvement programs, and risk management initiatives.
Take part in departmental meetings, case discussions, and morbidity & mortality reviews.
Engage in teaching and training activities for residents, medical students, and ED staff.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Education Qualifications: Medical Degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent).
Completion of postgraduate training in Emergency Medicine (e.g., MD Emergency Medicine, MRCEM, FACEM, FCEM, or equivalent).
Valid medical license/registration from the respective national or regional medical council.
ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certification preferred or as per local policy.
