Job Description
- The Emergency Medicine In-Charge is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Department (ED), ensuring efficient patient flow, high-quality clinical care, and adherence to established protocols.
- This role combines clinical leadership with administrative oversight, requiring proactive coordination with medical, nursing, and ancillary teams.
- The In-Charge is pivotal in managing emergency cases, prioritizing patient safety, and optimizing the performance of the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all activities within the Emergency Department during the assigned shift.
- Ensure timely triage, assessment, and treatment of emergency cases in accordance with clinical protocols.
- Provide leadership and support to ED staff, including nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals.
- Monitor patient flow and resource allocation to prevent bottlenecks and overcrowding.
- Act as the primary liaison between the ED and other departments (e.g., ICU, Radiology, Laboratory) for seamless interdepartmental communication.
- Maintain accurate documentation of clinical activities, incidents, and staffing.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and performance evaluations of ED staff.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and morbidity/mortality reviews.
- Respond to emergencies within the hospital when required, including code blue or trauma alerts.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Medicine (MBBS or equivalent).
- Postgraduate qualification in Emergency Medicine or related specialty (MD, MEM, MRCEM, or equivalent) preferred.
- Valid medical license/registration as per local regulatory authority.
