Job Description: Patient Account Representatives are vital to the financial and customer service aspects of healthcare organizations. They manage patient billing inquiries, process payments, and negotiate payment plans for outstanding balances. This role requires a balance of strong communication skills to interact with patients and their families, detailed knowledge of billing procedures and insurance policies, and the ability to handle sensitive financial matters with empathy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities: Billing Inquiries: Serve as the primary point of contact for patients regarding billing questions, explaining charges, insurance coverage, and payment options clearly and compassionately.
Payment Processing: Receive and process payments from patients, either directly or through insurance companies, ensuring accurate posting to patient accounts.
Account Management: Monitor and manage patient accounts, including the follow-up on outstanding balances, updating account information, and negotiating payment plans where necessary.
Insurance Coordination: Work with insurance companies to verify coverage, submit claims, and resolve any discrepancies or denials to ensure correct billing.
Documentation: Maintain thorough and accurate records of patient interactions, billing transactions, and account adjustments.
Compliance: Ensure all financial transactions and interactions comply with federal and state laws, healthcare regulations, and internal policies.
Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service, handling patient concerns with sensitivity and a problem-solving approach.

Education Qualifications: Educational Background: High school diploma required; a degree or certification in healthcare administration, finance, or related field preferred.
Experience: Experience in customer service, billing, or in a healthcare setting is highly beneficial. Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and billing software is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency with billing systems and software, detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly and professionally.
Certifications: Certifications such as Certified Patient Account Technician (CPAT) or Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) can enhance a candidate’s qualifications.
