Job Description
- A Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for the routine maintenance, repair, and overall management of a company's vehicle fleet.
- These professionals ensure that all vehicles are in safe and optimal working condition to support operational efficiency and safety standards.
- The role requires a mix of mechanical skills, diagnostic abilities, and knowledge of a wide range of vehicles, from standard passenger cars to specialized commercial or emergency vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Routine Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance checks and services on fleet vehicles, including oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections.
- Repairs: Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical vehicle issues, ranging from simple fixes to complex problems involving engines, transmissions, and other critical systems.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed on each vehicle, including parts used and labor hours.
- Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough safety inspections to ensure all fleet vehicles comply with legal and company safety standards.
- Parts Inventory: Manage inventory of spare parts and supplies, ordering new stock as necessary while keeping track of costs.
- Vendor Relations: Coordinate with external vendors and suppliers for parts or services that cannot be completed in-house.
- Emergency Response: Provide rapid response to vehicle breakdowns, including on-site repairs or coordination of towing services.
- Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with industry standards and government regulations.
Education Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in automotive technology or a related field is preferred.
- Certification: Certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) are highly regarded.
- Experience: Previous experience in vehicle maintenance and repair is required. Experience with the specific type of fleet vehicles (e.g., commercial, emergency, heavy-duty) is a plus.
- Licenses: A valid driver’s license, often with a clean driving record. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required for certain fleets.
