Job Description: The Histology Technician is responsible for preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination and analysis in a pathology laboratory. This role involves working closely with histopathologists, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards, and contributing to accurate and timely diagnostic outcomes.
Key Responsibilities: Tissue Preparation: Process, embed, and section tissue samples using microtomes for microscopic examination.
Staining: Perform routine and special staining techniques, such as Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) and immunohistochemistry (IHC), to enhance tissue visualization.
Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain histology equipment, including tissue processors, embedding centers, and microscopes.
Quality Control: Conduct quality checks to ensure proper tissue preparation and staining accuracy.
Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to NABL, CAP, ISO, and other relevant regulatory standards for histology laboratories.
Data Documentation: Accurately record details of specimen preparation, staining protocols, and results.
Sample Handling: Ensure proper labeling, tracking, and storage of tissue specimens to avoid errors.
Safety Protocols: Follow laboratory safety guidelines, including handling hazardous chemicals and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintenance: Clean and troubleshoot histology equipment to ensure smooth operations.
Collaboration: Work closely with pathologists and other lab staff to ensure efficient workflow and accurate results.
Education Qualifications: Minimum Requirements: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT) or a related field.
Preferred: Certification or specialized training in histotechnology or tissue processing.
Experience: Previous experience in a histology lab or pathology lab is preferred.
