Job Description: The ICU Coordinator, also known as the Intensive Care Unit Coordinator, plays a pivotal role in managing the operations and administrative tasks of the ICU department. This position involves coordinating patient care activities, facilitating communication among staff, managing schedules, and ensuring that the ICU complies with hospital policies and standards. The ICU Coordinator acts as a liaison between medical staff, patients, and families, and supports the ICU’s mission to provide high-quality critical care.
Key Responsibilities: Patient Care Coordination Oversee the scheduling and coordination of patient care activities to ensure efficient and effective care delivery.
Staff Scheduling: Manage the scheduling of nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to maintain optimal staffing levels that meet patient care needs.
Communication Facilitator Serve as a primary communication link between ICU staff, other hospital departments, patients, and families. Ensure that information is accurately and promptly conveyed.
Policy and Procedure Management Ensure that ICU operations adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Assist in the development and implementation of new policies and procedures as needed.
Equipment and Supplies Management Oversee the inventory of ICU supplies and equipment, ensuring that necessary items are in stock and in working order. Coordinate maintenance and repairs as needed.
Administrative Support Provide administrative support to the ICU staff, including document management, data entry, and preparation of reports. Assist with budget preparation and monitoring.
Quality Improvement Participate in quality improvement initiatives, collecting data, and implementing changes to improve patient care and outcomes within the ICU.
Training Coordination Assist in the coordination of training and orientation for new staff members. Ensure that all staff meet continuing education requirements.
Education Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field is preferred. Associates degree or relevant certification may be acceptable with extensive experience.
Experience: Previous experience in healthcare administration or a clinical setting, with a strong understanding of ICU operations and patient care processes.
Licensure/Certification: While not always required, certification in healthcare administration or a clinical certification relevant to ICU care can be advantageous.
