The ICU Registrar is a medically qualified doctor who plays a key role in the day-to-day management of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit.
Operating under the supervision of senior intensivists or consultants, the Registrar is responsible for delivering hands-on clinical care, performing procedures, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of critical care.
This role is essential in maintaining the smooth functioning of the ICU while also offering excellent opportunities for clinical development and specialization.

Provide continuous medical care to ICU patients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
Perform and assist with critical care procedures such as intubation, central and arterial line insertion, chest tube placement, and resuscitation.
Participate actively in daily ICU rounds, collaborating with consultants, nurses, respiratory therapists, and allied health professionals.
Monitor patient progress, review diagnostic tests, and adjust treatment plans as required.
Accurately document clinical findings, treatment decisions, and progress notes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Respond promptly to emergencies, including cardiac arrests and rapid deterioration, and lead Code Blue responses when necessary.
Provide comprehensive and effective handovers between shifts to ensure continuity of care.
Supervise and support junior medical staff, nursing teams, and other trainees in the ICU environment.
Communicate clearly with patients’ families regarding clinical updates, treatment plans, and goals of care, including end-of-life discussions when needed.
Contribute to ICU audits, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.

MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Postgraduate training (MD/DNB/DA) in Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, or related specialty preferred.
Registration with appropriate medical regulatory authority (e.g., MCI/NMC, GMC, DHA, etc.).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required; Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
Previous ICU or high-dependency unit (HDU) experience is highly desirable.

Strong clinical acumen and hands-on proficiency in ICU procedures.
Calm and decisive under pressure with the ability to manage acutely unwell patients.
Effective communication and teamwork skills within multidisciplinary teams.
High standards of professionalism, ethical practice, and patient confidentiality.
Willingness to learn, teach, and adapt in a demanding clinical environment.
Detail-oriented with excellent documentation and organizational skills.
Compassionate approach to patient and family interactions.
