Infection Control Nurses are specialized healthcare professionals dedicated to preventing the spread of infections within healthcare settings.
Their role encompasses surveillance, prevention, and control of infectious diseases, including implementing policies, educating healthcare staff, and monitoring and managing outbreaks.
These nurses play a critical role in enhancing patient safety and healthcare quality by reducing infection rates.

Surveillance: Conduct regular surveillance for hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), tracking and analyzing infection data to identify trends or outbreaks.
Policy Development and Implementation: Develop, review, and update infection control policies and procedures in accordance with current guidelines and regulations.
Education and Training: Provide education and training sessions for healthcare staff on infection prevention practices, hand hygiene, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Outbreak Management: Lead efforts to manage and contain infectious outbreaks within the healthcare facility, including contact tracing, staff and patient education, and liaison with public health authorities.
Consultation: Serve as a consultant to healthcare teams on infection prevention strategies, particularly in complex cases or during procedures that carry a high risk of infection.
Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at reducing infection rates, such as improving sterilization practices, antibiotic stewardship, and environmental cleaning.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred, although an associate degree in nursing may be acceptable with relevant experience.
Licensure/Certification: Valid RN license. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) is highly desirable.
Experience: Clinical nursing experience, with a focus on infection control practices. Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting is advantageous.
Skills: Strong analytical skills to interpret data related to infection surveillance. Excellent communication and education skills to effectively share information with healthcare staff and patients.

Detail-Oriented: Vigilant attention to details and protocols necessary to prevent the spread of infections.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues related to infection control and develop effective strategies for improvement.
Leadership: Strong leadership skills to guide and influence healthcare staff in best practices for infection prevention.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to new guidelines, outbreaks, and the evolving nature of infectious diseases.
