Job Description: An Infection Control Specialist with a focus on Environmental Services (EVS) is a critical role within the healthcare ecosystem, dedicated to preventing and controlling the spread of infections in healthcare settings. This specialist applies expertise in infection prevention protocols, environmental cleaning standards, and epidemiology to oversee and enhance infection control practices related to environmental services. The role involves close collaboration with the environmental services, clinical staff, and the infection control department to ensure that cleaning and disinfection processes effectively reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

Key Responsibilities: Development and Implementation of Infection Control Protocols: Create, review, and update infection control policies and procedures for environmental cleaning, aligning with current guidelines and regulations from health authorities.
Training and Education: Provide comprehensive training programs for EVS staff and other relevant personnel on infection control practices, proper use of disinfectants, and handling of contaminated materials.
Infection Surveillance: Conduct regular audits and surveillance to identify potential infection risks related to environmental services. Implement corrective actions based on findings.
Outbreak Management: Respond to and manage infection outbreaks, including providing guidance on enhanced cleaning protocols and collaborating with clinical teams to limit spread.
Quality Improvement: Continuously assess and improve infection control practices within environmental services, utilizing data from surveillance and audit outcomes.
Communication and Collaboration: Serve as the liaison between the infection control department and environmental services, ensuring consistent communication and collaboration on infection prevention strategies.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that environmental cleaning and disinfection practices meet all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines for infection control.

Education Qualifications: Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health, microbiology, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in infection prevention and control are highly advantageous.
Experience: Experience in infection control, public health, or environmental services within a healthcare setting. Direct experience in a role emphasizing infection prevention is preferred.
Skills: In-depth knowledge of infection control principles, environmental cleaning standards, and the use of disinfectants. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Certifications: Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is preferred and often required for this role.
