Job Description: The Liver Transplant Physician is a specialist responsible for the comprehensive care of patients undergoing liver transplantation, including pre-transplant evaluation, perioperative management, and post-transplant follow-up. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary transplant team to ensure optimal outcomes for patients with end-stage liver disease and complex hepatobiliary conditions. The physician also contributes to research, education, and quality improvement efforts within the liver transplant program.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients being considered for liver transplantation.
Collaborate with transplant surgeons, hepatologists, anesthesiologists, coordinators, and other specialists in the evaluation and management process.
Provide inpatient and outpatient care for transplant candidates and recipients, including long-term follow-up.
Manage medical complications pre- and post-transplant, such as organ rejection, infections, and comorbidities.
Participate in transplant selection committee meetings and contribute to listing decisions.
Ensure compliance with transplant program protocols, national and institutional regulatory guidelines, and ethical standards.
Contribute to the development and revision of clinical pathways, protocols, and policies for transplant care.
Participate in transplant-related clinical trials and research, if applicable.
Engage in the education of medical trainees and support staff on transplant-related topics.
Support quality assurance, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives within the liver transplant program.
Education Qualifications: Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
Completion of a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology or Hepatology.
Subspecialty fellowship in Transplant Hepatology (required or strongly preferred).
Board certification in Gastroenterology and/or Transplant Hepatology.
Eligible for medical licensure in the relevant jurisdiction.
Additional certification or training in transplant medicine (advantageous).
