Job Description: The Microbiology Technician is responsible for conducting routine microbiological tests, preparing samples, and assisting in the analysis of infectious agents under the supervision of microbiologists. This role ensures compliance with laboratory quality and regulatory standards and supports the smooth operation of the microbiology department in a pathology laboratory.

Key Responsibilities: Sample Preparation: Collect, label, and prepare patient samples, such as blood, urine, and tissue, for microbiological analysis.
Routine Testing: Conduct microbiological tests, including gram staining, culture setup, and sensitivity testing.
Equipment Operation: Operate, calibrate, and maintain microbiology lab equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, and microscopes.
Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on reagents and equipment to ensure test accuracy.
Regulatory Compliance: Follow NABL, CAP, ISO, and other relevant regulatory standards in all lab activities.
Data Documentation: Maintain accurate records of test results, observations, and processes in laboratory management systems.
Media Preparation: Prepare and sterilize culture media for microbial growth and testing.
Maintenance: Assist in cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment and workspaces.
Safety Protocols: Adhere to biosafety guidelines when handling infectious agents and biohazardous materials.
Collaboration: Work closely with microbiologists and other lab staff to ensure timely and accurate completion of tests.

Education Qualifications: Minimum Requirements: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT) or Microbiology.
Preferred: Certification in microbiology techniques or related areas.
Experience: Prior experience in a microbiology laboratory or pathology lab is preferred.
