Job Description: Neurophysiology Technicians are specialized healthcare professionals who perform diagnostic tests to help diagnose and monitor conditions affecting the brain and nervous system. These tests include electroencephalograms (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), and evoked potentials (EP). These technicians play a critical role in the neurology department, working closely with neurologists to provide accurate data that informs diagnosis and treatment.
Key Responsibilities: Test Administration: Conduct diagnostic tests like EEG, EMG, NCS, and EP, ensuring patient comfort and safety during the procedures.
Data Collection and Analysis: Gather and analyze test data, identifying abnormalities or patterns that indicate neurological conditions.
Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that neurophysiological testing equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning correctly.
Patient Preparation and Education: Prepare patients for tests, explaining procedures, and answering any questions to ease patient anxiety.
Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document test procedures and findings, providing detailed reports to neurologists for further analysis and treatment planning.
Collaboration: Work closely with neurologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and contribute to multidisciplinary treatment plans.
Education Qualifications: Education: Typically requires an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in neurodiagnostic technology, biomedical science, or a related field. Certification from a recognized neurophysiology or neurodiagnostic technologist program is highly valued.
Certification: Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) or similar credentialing bodies may be required or preferred.
Experience: Hands-on experience in a clinical setting, performing neurodiagnostic testing, is essential.
Skills: Strong technical skills to operate and troubleshoot neurodiagnostic equipment, attention to detail, and the ability to work well with patients and healthcare teams.
