Job Description
- Nuclear Medicine Nurses/Technician Assistants support nuclear medicine technologists and physicians in preparing and caring for patients undergoing nuclear medicine procedures.
- They assist with patient preparation, provide care during procedures, and ensure the smooth operation of the nuclear medicine department.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Preparation: Assist in preparing patients for nuclear medicine procedures, including explaining the procedure, addressing concerns, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Radiopharmaceutical Handling: Assist in the safe handling and administration of radiopharmaceuticals under the supervision of licensed professionals.
- Monitoring and Support: Monitor patients during procedures, providing necessary support and addressing any immediate needs or complications.
- Post-Procedure Care: Assist patients after procedures, providing care instructions and ensuring they are stable before discharge.
- Equipment Assistance: Help in setting up, calibrating, and maintaining nuclear medicine equipment and ensuring it is ready for use.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient interactions, procedures, and outcomes as required by departmental protocols.
- Safety Protocols: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and self, especially regarding radiation exposure.
- Inventory Management: Assist in managing inventory, including radiopharmaceuticals and other supplies, ensuring they are stored and handled properly.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with nuclear medicine technologists, nurses, and physicians to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Education and Training: Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated with nuclear medicine practices and safety standards.
Education Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional healthcare-related education or certification preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in radiology or nuclear medicine, is an asset.
- Knowledge of radiation safety and handling of radiopharmaceuticals is beneficial.
