Orthopedic Surgeons are specialized medical doctors responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing the care of patients with musculoskeletal system issues.
This includes injuries and diseases affecting bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves.
They perform surgical and non-surgical interventions to improve function, reduce pain, and restore mobility.

Diagnosis: Evaluate and diagnose patients with musculoskeletal injuries or conditions through clinical examinations, imaging studies, and other diagnostic tests.
Treatment Planning: Develop comprehensive treatment plans that may include medication, exercise, physical therapy, or surgery.
Surgical Intervention: Perform surgical procedures to repair or reconstruct damaged structures, correct deformities, and relieve pain. This includes arthroscopy, joint replacement, fracture fixation, and spinal surgery.
Patient Care: Provide preoperative and postoperative care, monitor patients' progress, and make adjustments to treatment plans as necessary.
Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists, radiologists, and primary care physicians, to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care.
Education and Counseling: Educate patients and their families about conditions, treatment options, and recovery expectations. Provide counseling on injury prevention and lifestyle modifications to promote musculoskeletal health.
Research and Development: Participate in research to develop new surgical techniques, treatments, and approaches to patient care. Stay updated with advancements in orthopedic surgery and related fields.

Education: Completion of a medical degree (MD or DO), followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery. Further fellowship training in subspecialties such as sports medicine, joint replacement, or pediatric orthopedics is common.
Licensing: Must be licensed to practice medicine in the state of practice. Board certification in orthopedic surgery is also required.
Skills: Excellent manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for surgical procedures. Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Technical Proficiency: Mastery of surgical techniques and the use of orthopedic tools and devices.
Patient-focused: Strong commitment to patient care, displaying empathy, understanding, and patience with patients’ concerns and anxieties.
Communication: Clear communication skills for explaining complex medical information to patients and collaborating with healthcare teams.
