Job Description: An Operating Theatre (OT) Technician, also known as a Surgical Technologist, plays a crucial role in the success of surgical procedures by ensuring that the operating room is prepared, maintaining sterile conditions, and assisting surgeons and nurses during operations. They are responsible for preparing the operating room with the necessary instruments and equipment, assisting in surgeries by providing tools to surgeons, and ensuring all instruments are sterilized and functional.
Key Responsibilities: Preparation of the Operating Room: Set up the operating room with required surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile linens. Ensure the equipment is in working order and ready for use.
Sterilization: Strictly adhere to sterilization protocols. Clean, sterilize, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment before and after procedures.
Assistance During Surgical Procedures: Assist surgeons and surgical nurses by passing instruments and other sterile supplies during procedures. May also assist in holding retractors, cutting sutures, and managing specimens.
Inventory Management: Keep track of surgical instruments and supplies before and after surgery to ensure nothing is misplaced or left inside the patient. Manage inventory and restock supplies as needed.
Patient Care: Assist in transferring patients to and from the operating room, position patients on the operating table, and help prepare them for surgery, including disinfecting incision sites.
Documentation: Complete necessary documentation related to surgeries, including detailing the procedures followed, the instruments used, and any other relevant information.
Education Qualifications: Education: A diploma or certificate in surgical technology from an accredited program.
Certification: Certification from a recognized surgical technologist certification program may be required or preferred by employers.
Experience: Clinical experience through internships or on-the-job training in a hospital or surgical center is highly valuable.
Skills: A thorough understanding of sterilization techniques, surgical instruments, and procedures. Good physical stamina and manual dexterity. The ability to remain calm under pressure and react quickly in urgent situations.

Teamwork: Ability to work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other OT technicians as part of the surgical team.
