Job Description: A Perfusionist specializing in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) is a highly skilled healthcare professional responsible for managing the cardiopulmonary bypass machine during cardiac and vascular surgeries. They play a critical role in maintaining optimal oxygenation and circulation for patients undergoing complex surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities: Set up and operate the cardiopulmonary bypass machine during surgeries.
Monitor and adjust blood flow, oxygenation, and temperature to support the patient’s physiological needs.
Manage blood products and administer medications as directed by the surgical team.
Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
Assess patient vital signs, blood gases, and hemodynamic parameters during surgery.
Monitor and interpret data from various physiological monitoring devices.
Collaborate with the surgical team to optimize patient outcomes.
Perfusion Techniques:
Utilize advanced perfusion techniques, including hypothermic and normothermic perfusion.
Manage extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for patients requiring advanced life support.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals during surgeries.
Communicate effectively to ensure seamless coordination and patient safety.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure adherence to perfusion protocols, standards, and best practices.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to ongoing education and training.
Education Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in perfusion technology or a related field; certification as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) required.
Clinical experience in perfusion, with a focus on cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries.
Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
