Job Description: Pharmacy Technicians assist pharmacists in dispensing prescription medication to customers or health professionals. They work in retail pharmacies, hospitals, and other medical settings, supporting the efficient operation of the pharmacy through medication preparation, customer interaction, and administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities: Medication Preparation: Assist in preparing prescribed medication, including counting tablets, labeling bottles, and verifying that the prescription information is complete and accurate.
Customer Service: Provide assistance to customers by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
Inventory Management: Help manage pharmacy inventory by stocking and organizing drug and supply shelves, monitoring levels, and reporting needed supplies to the pharmacist.
Administrative Tasks: Handle administrative duties such as processing insurance claims, managing patient records, and handling cash transactions.
Compliance: Adhere to all legal rules and regulations governing pharmacy services, maintaining privacy and confidentiality of patient information.
Education Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
Certification: Certification from an accredited pharmacy technician program may be required, depending on the state. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) offers a national certification exam.
Experience: Prior experience in a pharmacy setting is advantageous but not always necessary.
Licensure: Some states require pharmacy technicians to be registered or licensed.
