Job Description: Pharmacy Technicians play a crucial role in supporting pharmacists in the daily operations of pharmacies within hospitals, retail, and other healthcare settings. Their responsibilities include assisting with the preparation and dispensing of medications, maintaining patient records, and managing inventory. Pharmacy Technicians must possess a detailed understanding of medication types, dosages, and pharmacy law, alongside strong organizational and customer service skills. Key Responsibilities: Medication Preparation and Dispensing: Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescription medications accurately to patients.
Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service, handling inquiries, and communicating with patients about their prescriptions under the pharmacist’s supervision.
Inventory Management: Assist in managing the pharmacy inventory, including ordering, stocking, and removing expired products.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient and medication records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
Insurance Processing: Process insurance claims, work with insurance companies to resolve issues, and inform patients of their coverage.
Compounding: Assist in the compounding of medications for customized patient needs, following pharmacist instructions and safety protocols.
Quality Control: Perform regular checks to ensure that all medications are stored and handled in compliance with pharmacy health and safety standards.
Pharmacy Maintenance: Keep the pharmacy clean, organized, and well-stocked, ensuring a professional environment.
Education Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a pharmacy technician certification program accredited by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) is highly preferred.
Certification: Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is required in many states.
Experience: Prior experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred, though on-the-job training may be provided.
Skills: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, basic math skills for compounding and dispensing medications, and effective communication skills.
