Job Description: Psychiatric nurses specialize in mental health care, providing support and nursing care to individuals dealing with a variety of mental illnesses and emotional disturbances. They work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals to implement treatment plans for patients.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct initial assessments and participate in the diagnosis and ongoing management of patients’ mental health.
Administer medication as prescribed and monitor patients for side effects and effectiveness.
Provide therapeutic care and crisis intervention.
Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment plans.
Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients.
Participate in treatment planning and review meetings.
Support patients in developing skills and strategies for managing their mental health and improving their quality of life.
Education Qualifications: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Postgraduate qualifications in mental health nursing or a related field are highly regarded.
Clinical experience in a psychiatric setting.
Certification in psychiatric-mental health nursing (PMHN) is an advantage.
