Job Description
- The Scrub Nurse plays a critical role in the operating room by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling surgical instruments, and directly assisting the surgeon during procedures.
- This role ensures surgical efficiency and upholds strict infection control standards throughout the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical field
- Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies during procedures
- Ensure all instruments and equipment are sterile and functioning
- Count surgical instruments, sponges, and needles pre- and post-operation
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during the procedure
- Handle surgical specimens according to protocol
- Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures and instrument usage
- Ensure patient safety by strictly adhering to infection control standards
- Assist in positioning and draping the patient before surgery
- Collaborate with circulating nurse and other OR staff for seamless workflow
- Participate in pre-op checks and post-op clean-up
- Report any equipment malfunctions or procedural deviations
- Assist in emergency procedures as required
- Maintain readiness for a wide range of surgical cases
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement and safety practices
Education Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (GNM/BSc Nursing or equivalent)
- Valid nursing registration/license from appropriate health authority
- Specialized training in perioperative or operating room nursing (preferred)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred)
- Prior experience in a surgical setting (1–2 years preferred)
