Job Description: The Senior Resident in Surgical Oncology plays a pivotal role in the management and treatment of cancer patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position involves a significant amount of direct patient care, supervision of junior residents, and active participation in both clinical and academic settings.
Key Responsibilities: Patient Management: Evaluate and manage patients with oncological conditions, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
Surgical Assistance: Assist in surgical procedures and perform minor surgeries under supervision, as well as independently managing some cases.
Training and Supervision: Mentor and train junior residents and medical students, ensuring that they adhere to medical standards and protocols.
Clinical Research: Participate in clinical trials and research projects related to surgical oncology, aiming to improve treatment methodologies and patient outcomes.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, such as oncologists, pathologists, and radiologists, to provide comprehensive care to patients.
Emergency Care: Manage oncological emergencies, providing immediate care and stabilization.
Education Qualifications: Education: MD or DO with a specialization in surgical oncology or general surgery with additional training in oncology.
Experience: Several years of residency in general surgery, followed by specialized training in surgical oncology.
Licenses: Must be licensed to practice medicine in the jurisdiction of the hospital.
Key Attributes: Technical Proficiency: Skilled in surgical techniques and patient management specific to oncology.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex clinical data and research findings.
Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team.
